Job Description

Toxic Tort/Environmental Associate Attorney

  • Practice Area Environmental Litigation and Mass Tort
  • Location: Washington, D.C.
  • Schedule: Onsite or Hybrid per firm policy; full-time with standard AmLaw 20 billable requirements (~2,000+ annually)
  • Salary: Estimated base range of $215,000 to $280,000 with annual bonuses typically $20,000 to $65,000+ , depending on class year, performance, and firm results.

An Amlaw 20 firm with a nationally recognized environmental litigation practice representing Fortune 500 companies, industry coalitions, and government entities. The Washington, D.C. office handles high-stakes litigation involving environmental regulations, mass tort claims, and complex compliance disputes.

Description:

The role involves representing clients in federal and state litigation, administrative proceedings, and multi-district litigation arising from environmental laws, chemical exposure claims, and large-scale mass tort matters. You will draft pleadings, manage discovery, develop defense strategies, and work closely with technical experts. The position offers immediate courtroom exposure, involvement in cutting-edge environmental law matters, and the chance to work alongside seasoned trial lawyers on matters of national importance.

Qualifications:

  • JD from an accredited law school; DC Bar admission or eligibility required.
  • Preferred class years: 2018–2022 (mid-level) or 2015+ (senior lateral).
  • Experience in environmental litigation, mass tort defense, or regulatory matters.
  • Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage large caseloads with multiple stakeholders.
  • Comfort working with scientific and technical subject matter.
  • Trial or deposition experience preferred.
