Job Description

The City of Columbus has a current job opening and is accepting applications for the position of a fulltime Park and Recreation Coordinator.

This is responsible supervisory and administrative work in developing, planning, organizing and managing events and activities at city facilities. Coordinate recreational activities with other departments and organizations, working closely with the Park Superintendent, Park and Recreation Coordinator (Aquatics), Municipal Golf Pro and Senior Center Manager. Will promote city facilities not only locally but regionally and help to develop budgets for facility improvements. Work is performed under the direction of the Park and Recreation Director and the incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement in completing their duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, public officials, local and regional organizations and the general public.
• Effectively and efficiently plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate use of city recreational and athletic facilities
• Prepares and submits annual budget requests to the Park and Recreation Director, assists in the planning and budgeting of projects at city recreational facilities
• Attends monthly Park Board meetings, along with any other meetings deemed necessary, makes presentations to local organizations and service clubs when requested.
• Coordinate athletic and recreational events to attract visitors to the community.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, supplemented by course work in recreation, leisure services or a closely related field is preferred.
• One year of experience working in a recreational environment is preferred.
• Willingness to work irregular hours when required by recreational activities and events.
• Knowledge of grant preparation, including methods of researching grants availability, writing grant applications, and project supervision.
